Teen Body Image Group - Open and Ongoing
For Teens & Body Image Exploration
14-18 years old
Led by Ann Meinecke, Graduate Student Intern
Starting Tuesday, April 7th from 6:30-8pm
This group provides a weekly space for teens to explore body image and body image healing through expressive therapies.
We will aim to reduce body image distress and body shame, and reorient participants toward body appreciation. Topics include exploring what body image is, and what affects it - both positvely and negatively.
Aspects of body image work, including body neutrality, body tolerance, and body respect, will be woven throughout the group programming.
Learn about body image - what is it, really? What makes it better and worse?
Learn tools to identify body image distress and improve it
Education and lots of specific support centered on experiences of participants
Weekly art and creative expression related towards body image
Prevent disordered eating patterns
Practice body acceptance and neutrality, and reduce symptoms of body shame
Learn important coping skills to handle peers, bullying, and social media - all the things that affects body image
