We do not provide higher levels of care at this time, including IOP or PHP options.
We are outpatient providers, which is the lowest level of care for eating disorder treatment. That means that our clients need to be medically stable to work with us. If you or your loved one is experiencing medical issues as a result of prolonged undernourishment, purging behaviors, or overexercise, we will likely recommend a higher level of care for you, to ensure your safety, and that you will receive all of the support you need to learn how to better care for yourself. When you are ready to “step down” from a higher level of care to outpatient care, we will embrace and support you on this next leg of your journey of healing.
Levels of care for eating disorder treatment in ascending order:
*Outpatient— Lowest level of care. Up to 2x/week therapy sessions, and up to 2x/week nutrition counseling sessions. This is us!
IOP— Intensive Outpatient program. More sessions per week, and more support all around. There is typically medical care, psychiatric care, group therapy, individual therapy, nutrition therapy, and skills groups at this level of care. You come and then go home after treatment sessions. Center for Discovery and Eating Recovery Center are the IOPs currently in Austin.
PHP— Partial Hospitalization Program. More days and sessions per week than IOP, and more support all around. There is typically medical care, psychiatric care, group therapy, individual therapy, nutrition therapy, and skills groups at this level of care. You come and then go home after treatment sessions. Center for Discovery and Eating Recovery Center are the PHPs currently in Austin.
Residential— Eating Disorder Treatment that requires you to live in the center during your treatment. Around-the-clock support for your eating disorder recovery. There are many residential facilities across the country.
In-patient Care— This is the highest level of care for eating disorder treatment. Folks with severe medical instability that require a live-in hospital setting will admit to an in-patient center or hospital.
*Stepping down through the levels of care is ideal, one level at a time, to ensure that you or your loved one has plenty of support during these transitions to prevent relapse and to continue to do deeper recovery work that will last.

After your initial consultation and completion of the necessary documents found in your secure client portal, you will begin with your therapist. We will explore your history, your goals, struggles, and especially your strengths. Therapy is different for everyone because we are all unique humans. We will work together to help you feel better, learn about yourself, develop your coping resources, and work towards your goals. We will laugh, perhaps cry, and maybe even rage together as we help you to figure things out, and learn how to better care for yourself.
-
After you have provided your dietitian information about you and your eating concerns via your secure client portal, you will have a first session to get to know your dietitian and learn how nutrition therapy will work for you and your goals. We will explore your needs, strengths, and your history of eating behaviors, body image, and medical concerns. It can be intimidating to work with a dietitian, and we’re here to make sure you feel safe and comfortable, moving at a pace that works for you. Our job is to collaborate to help you find food freedom, body autonomy, and liberation from your eating disorder.
-
We wish we knew! Everyone is different, and has unique genetics, histories, relationships, needs, and experiences. We see some clients for a few months and others for a few years. You are in charge and are free to come and go as you please. We can tell you that eating disorders generally require a long-term process of recovery. This is because eating disorders invade every aspect of a person’s life: identity, relationships with others and especially with self, work/school, medical/physical health, emotional health, inner dialogue, self-worth, mental health, etc. They are complex disorders that generally require a treatment team (therapist, dietitian, doctor) to treat, and can require higher levels of care depending on the severity (IOP, PHP, residential, in-patient).
We are out-patient providers, the lowest level of care, and will collaborate with your entire treatment team to ensure the best care possible for you.
-
To get the most out of your investment in time, energy, and money, weekly sessions are most likely best. Depending on your needs, we can explore reducing or increasing the frequency of sessions.
-
You will be required to give 24 hours notice for canceled sessions to avoid paying the full session fee.

Everything talked about in therapy and nutrition therapy is confidential. We want you to feel as safe as possible to say all the things, without fear of judgment. In fact, the more you say, the better therapy works for you. There are some limitations to confidentiality, however. Examples of these limitations include: if you are in danger of harming yourself or someone else, if you talk about child abuse happening presently, or if a court orders documents, confidentiality can be broken to ensure safety and legal compliance. It is very rare for confidentiality to be broken.

Oh my goodness, NO. Struggling with an eating disorder or trauma is absolutely not your fault. You didn’t ask for any of this, even if it feels like you did. We will work together to locate and heal your untrue beliefs that you deserve this, or that this (often invisible) misery is your fault. It can be scary to begin therapy, especially if you blame yourself for your suffering. Please know that you are safe to explore all of the different parts of yourself in a warm, confidential, and loving space that therapy can provide.
